Did you know that the number of emergency-room visits and attempted suicides related to prescription sleep aids has sky-rocketed in recent years.  In fact somewhere between 50 and 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders, and rely on medication that can often do more harm than good. Even with medication some people still struggle. And then more medication is taken, and on it goes… the never-ending frustrating cycle of sleeplessness.

Insomnia can be the result of Worry, Fears, Anxiety, and Negative Thinking.

When the conscious mind is busy with worry, anxiety, fears, anger, emotional conflicts etc. the brain has a hard time letting go. We lay in bed at night tossing and turning, our minds racing with worries and lists of things to do.

Some people go over and over their day, worry about tomorrow, repeat endless conversations with their inner voice, or just worry so much about not being able to sleep that they indeed cannot sleep! The minutes turn to hours as dawn approaches. We might flip through TV channels, check email or thumb pages of books hoping our minds will be distracted just long enough to drift into a slumber. Yet night after night the insomnia remains.

Our stress levels increase as a result, creating a vicious cycle as our bodies battle to relax. Sometimes it’s a medical problem or chemical side effect that prevents us from getting the rest we need. No matter the cause, the results are exactly the same. Another unsettled night followed by an exhausted day.

Not sleeping can be a vicious cycle - the more we focus on NOT sleeping, the worse it gets!
